Jacob A. Abraham is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He is also director of the Computer Engineering Research Center and holds a Cockrell Family Regents Chair in Engineering. He received the Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kerala, India, in 1970. His M.S. degree, in Electrical Engineering, and Ph.D., in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, were received from Stanford University, Stanford, California, in 1971 and 1974, respectively. From 1975 to 1988 he was on the faculty of the University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois.

Professor Abraham's research interests include VLSI design and test, formal verification, and fault-tolerant computing. He is the principal investigator of several contracts and grants in these areas, and a consultant to industry and government on testing and fault-tolerant computing. He has over 200 publications, and has supervised more than 40 Ph.D. dissertations. He was elected Fellow of the IEEE in 1985, and is also a member of ACM. He has served as associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design and the IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems, and was chair of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Fault-Tolerant Computing in 1992 and 1993.
