Jacob A. Abraham is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He is also director of the Computer Engineering Research Center and holds a Cockrell Family Regents Chair in Engineering. He received the Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kerala, India, in 1970. His M.S. degree, in Electrical Engineering, and Ph.D., in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, were received from Stanford University, Stanford, California, in 1971 and 1974, respectively. From 1975 to 1988 he was on the faculty of the University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois.

Professor Abraham's research interests include VLSI design and test, formal verification, and fault-tolerant computing. He is the principal investigator of several contracts and grants in these areas, and a consultant to industry and government on testing and fault-tolerant computing. He has over 400 publications, and has been included in a list of the most cited researchers in the world. He has supervised more than 90 Ph.D. dissertations. He is particularly proud of the accomplishments of his students, many of whom occupy senior positions in academia and industry. He has served as associate editor of several IEEE Transactions, and as chair of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Fault-Tolerant Computing. He has been elected Fellow of the IEEE as well as Fellow of the ACM, and is the recipient of the 2005 IEEE Emanuel R. Piore Award, the 2017 Jean-Claude Laprie Award, the IEEE Test Technology Technical Committee Lifetime Contribution Medal, and the Achievement Award from the European Design Automation Association in 2019.
